Miss California Latina 2010

CINDY SALAUES

Cindy Salaues was born on January 14, 1988 in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala to parents Tady and Francisco Salaues.  Her mother being from Puerto Barrios, Guatemala and father from CochabamaBolivia, Spanish was Cindy’s first language.  It was not long before when she came to the United Stated where California became her permanent home.  Living throughout Southern California as a baby in cities such as Glendale and Los Angeles as an only child.  At age 3 she became a big sister to her brother Salim Salaues and a few years later moved to the city of Santa Clarita
Growing up Cindy was very athletic.  She found the love of soccer and played from the age 10-19 and played for Canyon High School where she received the “Cowboy of the year” award (player of the year), as well as running track in Junior High and placing 3rd in high jump and also played volleyball and gymnastics.  She constantly visited family back in Guatemala andBolivia where she enjoyed spending time with all her cousins.  Every visit was to have time with family but in 2002 Cindy went to Guatemala and visited the famous Mayan ruins of Tikal.  She fell in love with the culture and history behind the country she did not know much about.  After her experience in Tikal she decided she wanted to travel to different countries and find out more history about countries she did not know about and thought to start with the countries her family comes from.  Her next destination was in Bolivia where she found the biggest salt flat in the world, Salar de Uyuni.
Cindy enjoys helping people out and thought by becoming a doctor she would accomplish that.  After graduating high she started her pre med courses at College of the Canyons.  While her first year in college she worked for a school district at an after school program.  Cindy fell in love with the children and decided to change her major into Child Development.  She graduated from community college with her AA degree in Child Development and transferred to California State University of Northridge where she was going to work on her B.A. in Child Development.  At CSUN she contemplated about going back into the medical field and finally came to the conclusion to be in the nursing field.  Cindy is currently working toward her pre nursing courses where she then will apply to nursing programs and after completion of her RN she will specialize in pediatrics.
Volunteering and giving back is very important to Cindy.  She has volunteered for the Special Olympics in the Santa Clarita Valley.  She hopes to volunteer more in her community and around the world as well as giving back to different organizations.
